Jobs & pay

Work and wages where you live.

How many people are out of work in your local authority, how many are in it, what full-time workers there earn, and how your neighbourhood ranks for deprivation, each against the UK, or against Northern Ireland for its districts.

  • Claimant count, monthly
  • Median pay
  • Deprivation decile

How this works

Your postcode’s local authority is looked up on Nomis, the ONS’s labour market service. The claimant count is an administrative count published monthly; the employment, unemployment and inactivity rates come from the Annual Population Survey, a rolling twelve-month household survey; pay is the median for full-time workers who live in the area, from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, published each autumn. The deprivation rank is the postcode’s small area (around 1,500 people) on the English, Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish index of multiple deprivation, from the ONS Open Geography portal. Nomis publishes no survey or pay figures for Northern Ireland’s eleven districts, so those come from NISRA’s open data portal: the Labour Force Survey’s annual rates and ASHE’s median pay by district, compared with Northern Ireland as a whole. Figures are cached for a day.
