What has Parliament said about your area?

Hansard records every word spoken in the Commons and the Lords. This page searches the last year of it for the name of your council area, constituency or ward: how often it came up and when, which MPs and peers raised it, the debates and question sessions it came up in, and the passages themselves, each linked to the full speech.

How this works

The postcode is looked up for its council area, Westminster constituency and ward, and the chosen name is searched as a phrase in the Hansard search API from the first of the month a year ago, across both Houses, Westminster Hall and committees. The latest 300 spoken mentions are read and summarised, and the answer is kept for six hours. A constituency name comes up whenever another member addresses its MP by it (“the hon. Member for Hazel Grove”), so the constituency count is partly a measure of how active the MP is; the council area is usually the better measure of the place itself. Hansard searches words, not places, so a town that is also an ordinary word picks up the other meaning too. The devolved legislatures keep separate official reports and are not searched.
