How this works

Each UK nation keeps its own register of protected historic buildings and sites: the National Heritage List for England (Historic England), Cof Cymru (Cadw), Historic Environment Scotland’s designations and Northern Ireland’s Historic Environment Division records. England and Wales grade listed buildings I, II* and II; Scotland uses categories A, B and C; Northern Ireland grades A, B+, B1 and B2. In every case the top grade is a small fraction of the list. The page searches Historic England’s open data service, Cadw’s data on DataMapWales, Historic Environment Scotland’s designations portal data or the Historic Environment Division’s service on OpenDataNI around your postcode; results are cached for a day. Listing protects a building’s character, it does not give public access.
