Your plot
What does planning say about your plot?
Before an extension, a loft conversion or a change of use, the questions are the same: is the plot in a conservation area, has the council taken away permitted development rights with an article 4 direction, are the trees protected, and what does the local plan want for the area? This page asks the planning data platform, where English councils now publish those layers, for one postcode, and adds the brownfield sites and heritage at risk within a short walk.
- Registered land parcel
- Article 4 rights removed
- Tree preservation orders
- Brownfield register nearby
How this works
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government runs the planning data platform, which collects planning datasets from every English council and from Historic England, Natural England, the Environment Agency and HM Land Registry in one place and one format. This page asks it which polygons contain the postcode’s point (rounded to about 20 m): the Land Registry title polygon, any conservation area, tree preservation zone, air quality management area, archaeological priority area, flood storage area, nutrient neutrality catchment, design code area or article 4 direction, and the local plan boundary, which leads to the plan itself. It then draws a box reaching about 500 m each way and lists the brownfield register sites, heritage at risk, protected trees, locally listed buildings and assets of community value inside it. Councils are still publishing: a conservation area every council has is on the platform, but article 4 directions, tree preservation orders and local lists depend on whether the council has supplied them, so an absence here is not proof of absence. Permitted development classes are those of the General Permitted Development Order 2015, as the platform names them.
