Business closures

Which businesses near you are closing down?

Every company that goes into liquidation or administration, and every petition to wind one up, has to be advertised in The Gazette, the official public record. This page reads three months of those notices for the companies registered around one postcode, sorts them into creditors' liquidations, court petitions and orders, administrations and solvent closures, and links each to its notice and its Companies House record.

  • Companies within 1, 5 or 10 miles
  • Petitions, orders & administrations
  • Linked to The Gazette & Companies House
  • Last three months

How this works

The Insolvency Act requires the main steps of a company’s closure to be advertised in The Gazette: the shareholders’ resolution to wind up and the liquidator’s appointment, a creditor’s petition to the court and the order that follows, and an administrator’s appointment. This page asks The Gazette’s notice feed for those notice types within a radius of the postcode over the last three months. The Gazette’s own search matches every address in a notice, including the insolvency practitioner’s office, so a Manchester practitioner’s national caseload would all appear near Stockport; instead each company is placed by the registered-office postcode quoted in its notice, and a petition or order by the point The Gazette attaches to it. Companies whose notice quotes no usable address are left out. A members’ voluntary liquidation is a solvent company closing by choice and is counted separately.
