Power cuts
Is the power off near you?
The companies that run the local electricity network log every fault and every planned switch-off. This page reads the open feeds from UK Power Networks, SSEN and National Grid Electricity Distribution, finds the incidents within a few kilometres of your postcode and shows who is affected, what went wrong and when power is expected back.
- Live faults
- Planned work
- Updated every few minutes
How this works
Great Britain’s electricity is distributed by six regional network operators (Northern Ireland has one more). Each runs a live power cut map, and three publish the same data as an open feed anyone can read without a key: UK Power Networks for London, the South East and East of England; SSEN for central southern England and the north of Scotland; and National Grid Electricity Distribution for the Midlands, the South West and South Wales. The page reads all three whatever the postcode, caches them for two minutes, and lists the incidents within your chosen radius, nearest first, with planned work separately. For the North of England, North Wales, central Scotland, Merseyside and Northern Ireland the operator’s feed is either not open or its licence could not be read, so the page links to their maps instead.
