Stop and search

Who gets stopped near you?

Every police stop and search within a mile of your postcode over the last twelve months: what officers were looking for, how often they found it, who was stopped and on which streets.

  • What they searched for
  • Outcomes and arrests
  • Streets with most stops

How this works

Police forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland record every stop and search: the power used, what the officer was looking for, the outcome, and the age, gender and self-defined ethnicity of the person. Each month most forces publish an anonymised copy to the Home Office’s data.police.uk, with locations snapped to published street points. The page asks for the twelve most recent months within a mile of your postcode and tallies them. Forces publish about two months in arrears, and a few do not publish stop and search at all; for those, only British Transport Police stops at stations appear and the page says so. Police Scotland publish separately.
