How this works
Nearest settings are read live from OpenStreetMap within 8 km of your postcode. It’s community-maintained, so treat it as a guide rather than an official schools register, and confirm details with the school or the DfE’s Get Information about Schools.
The area profile compares your upper-tier local authority with every other in England on each measure, colouring it by where it sits - “best is best”, whichever direction is good. Figures are authority-wide, not for any single school, and come from OHID’s Fingertips, which covers England only. Scottish postcodes instead get every publicly funded secondary school in the council area from the Scottish Government’s Insight benchmarking statistics on statistics.gov.scot: the share of leavers in a positive destination, attaining literacy and numeracy at SCQF level 5, holding at least one Higher and five or more National 5 passes, and their average tariff points, each beside the school’s virtual comparator (similar pupils from across Scotland), with ten years of destinations. Northern Irish postcodes get the council district’s school leavers from the Department of Education’s School Leavers Survey on NISRA’s open data portal: where they went next and the GCSE and A-level thresholds they reached, each beside Northern Ireland’s share and ranked against the eleven districts. Wales gets the nearest settings and the national picture but no area profile.
